88 Comanche No Passing Gear?

Sometime ago somebody mentioned an adjustment you could make to the transmission (automatic). The transmission works well, except for when you put the pedal down to the floor, you never get to that nice passing gear....any suggestions? thanks

Passing gear?? There is no such gear nor was there in you father's oldsmobile. The transmission will shift up or down as a function of speed, throttle position, and gear selector position. There is the possibility that the throttle position sensor is mis-adjusted.

Unless it is vastly different for older XJs/MJs, that TV cable does nothing to effect shift points or down shifts per se. It merely controls hydraulic pressures within the trans. If your trans is not down shifting when you floor it, I'd be more inclined to agree with PaulJ and suspect a faulty/mis-adjusted TPS.
