I'm running 3.75" because it is cheap and easy to find... but my tires stick out quite a bit. It is very stable at that width.

it all depends on if your running tie rods or heims and if you running a hysteer set up
im running 37 12.5 mtr's with a 4'' back space. that the maximum back spaceing i could run with this set up due to my hystreer arm and 1ton tie rods from R&P 4wd. i was running 36 13.5 irok but i had to run a 1/4'' spacer on the passanger side to clear the forword most tie rod a slow presser
if i ran heims or a chevy pearst tir rod you could go to 4 1/5 '' back spaceing
its all in your steering set

im not going to have high steer yet, may be later on....but i think im going to get 4" so i can be sure of clearing anything else....once i get high steer...
4 its the max??
or is there more back space than that....like to make the tire stick out more?

If you want your tires to stick out more you need less back spacing.

i forgot to mention that im running 15" wheels. it you go to 17s you can go with more back spaceing.
ill add out side to side of my front tires is 82" the rear is 81
