New engine problems

We just installed a rebuilt 4.0. Engine is hard to start, but acts like for the first second of cranking that it wants to run but it won't. Occocianly it will go ahead and start, idle fine for about a minute. If you give it gas it back fires out the exhaust. The headers will also start glowing red. Any ideas?

Check timing again.. Make sure your top dead center when installing dizzy

glowing headers. . .
is the cat clogged?

x2 on checking your timing and plug wires for proper spark delivery.

We have also checked the timing. TDC, set distributor at 5 o'clock on #1. Jeep is still hard to start. But when it does it runs for a minute and quits. Real hot on the exhaust side. Does the crankshaft position sensor have anything to do with this?
