Emissions Q&A

I have a 90' XJ with a lot of the vacuum hoses missing or cut. A mechanic told me that I don't need all of the hoses because most are for emissions control. I need to know which I have to have and which I can do without. I am building a trail rig so it doesn't have to pass inspection, all I need is what it takes to run.

well if it runs good then its fine. All mine are capped off and it runs fine.

If you will search here and in the OEM forum using just the key words "Crankcase Ventilation" or "vacuum lines" there are a number of great, older threads with pictures, links and details on the hose layout. Also the Haynes manual has great drawing details on the vacuum hose layouts. The OEM lines are available from NAPA and the dealer.
