Do your self a favor and keep it unpluged, when your level drops to half the dash light will flash when the fluid moves around when your driving.

What's the other mess of wire and expanding insulation foam on the firewall?

The foam is from the PO. He had a squirrel problem so he filled every hole with the foam. Its every where under the hood and the rockers are filled with it. The wire is for the XM antenna.

The wiring can be there and not have a sensor in the bottle (not equipped, right on top).
