wacky gages

On my way to my gf house my speedo and rpm gage started dropping down to 0 unless I was punching it. I have a 96xj with a 4.0 and a stock speedo with an after market rpm by auto meter . When I got to my gf house i ran inside for a sec and when I came out I had nothing when I turned the key. Gave it a jump and had to have my foot on the gas to keep it running. Where should I start looking with gages dead. Wat would make this happen

alternator died and drained the batt. check them both at your local autozone for free, search for the higher out put alt. upgrade as well, if your going to replace it might as well upgrade

wat about the gages bugging out and wat would cause that

Have your batt and alt tested, then see if your speed-o works

alternator dead. If your jeep is not mobile, find a ride and buy a tester for bat & alt. This just happened to a buddies honda. Jump it and see if your gauges are working, and then watch them die. If they die it is the alternator
