I'm wondering if anyone has tried to mount one of the wider Surco racks to factory jeep roof rack rails (the rails, not the cross bars, I know those suck). The default size for the XJ is 45x60, but I really want a 50x72 so I can take up more (all) of the roof and fit 4x8' sheet goods occasionally, at least the full width of them. I'm not worried about putting a huge amount of weight up there, just a 33" spare and a hi lift.
I haven't seen a good close up picture. Is it possible to still use the J100 mounts with the larger width rack, or do they only attach to the edge of the rack?
I know the Surco isn't the best rack out there, but the price is right if I can get at least 4' width and the mounting is easy.
