Loose upper sterring column w/tilt option

NAXJA Forum User
The sterring column on my '88 MJ has become loose ; Where the tilt function operates .
Any feedback as to possible part that might have broken ;Or is it an adjustment issue?
Know of a thread that relates to this? Is it common?
Regards.

Buried deep inside the column is a trundle that holds the tilt column pivot pin; the 4 bolts are loose!!
Fix it ASAP!
There are write-ups here discussing this repair.
You'll need a good-break down of the column before you start--lots of little pieces to loose track of. Not a hard job, just meticulous.

That's just about word for word with pictures. I used it when I fixed mine.

Word of advice, be careful what you bend and stress, don't brake any plastic parts. Set aside 4 or 6 hours to do this, you'll need some tools you probably don't have: reverse torx sockets and a couple others listed on that site.

Get yourself the locktite that says "permanent." You only want to retorque those bolts ONE time.

Thx. Guys .:peace:
Already gathered all the tools, and getting ready for surgery.:repair:
Regards.
