Help...T-case problem!!

I am heading out on a trip across pa today and they are calling for snow. My problem is that my t-case makes a grinding noise and wont engage when I put it in 4 high, 4 low is fine. It also makes horible poping and grinding noises if I put it in on a snow covered road and try to accelerate. Its a 231. Any Ideas?

drive chain is toast, it may me a linkage issue, but not likely, how many miles on the odometer?

It has 125,000 miles. How hard is it to fix. Why would it still work in 4 low if it is the chain?

My T-case seems to be stuck in "part time"
I can get into that and than "full time" and thats it. I tried hard to get it in 2wheel drive and only had it for a minute till it popped into 4 agin.
Does anyone know what this can be?
I was told it can be the linkage mechanism and I'd have to fix the linkage and for now go under and shift in into 2 with my hand.
I was also told it can be the T-case mount bushings.
Any suggegtions and help would be appreciated, Thanks

Do you wheel with your XJ? Anything that may have knocked your linkage?
