starting problems... i searched

89xj. I just put a new battery and post in. Unhooked the positive off the starter and cleaned it. Go to start even before i changed the battery it does the same thing. It clicks, turn key again it clicks. It doesnt crank it just clicks. Then i wait a minute clicks then i hit it again it turns over for maybe a second then it fires. So what is the deal? 200000miles + is the starter about to die or what?

Yes starter, I just posted this in another thread, as I just replaced my starter 2 weeks ago. Clicking like that and sometimes starting is definitely the starter.

I checked this one day because I heard the same clicking noise, tried jumping the selenoid, and nothing. Luckily I had changed the starter in my car over the summer, so the job went fairly easy...

if memory serves me right I think the starter was around $90 and there was a $30 core charge for the old crusty one...
