Bearings in compresr or alternator?

Ok. So when I start up my 99 automatic cherokee there is a constant whirring noise. When I popped the hood it seemed to be coming from the alternator or compressor. The noise sounds sort of like rushing wind. I dont think it is a vacuum leak. Can I still drive my car for a few hundred more miles if it is the bearings in the alternator or compressor?

I plan on replacing the broken part when my paycheck comes in.

Thanks,

Frank

I'd get that fixed ASAP. When the part decides to go, it'll leave you stranded at the least opportune time.

Take the belt off and spin each the compressor and alternator pullies by hand. You may be able to tell which one is making the noise.
