speed sensor needed?

swapping a np205 into buggy with 97 electronics from cherokee. (4.0l, aw4) speed sensor will not adapt to 205. those with broken speed sensors or a lack of one, how did your motor or tranny run/shift? does the electronics need the speed sensor for anything other than speedometer reading? thank you for your response!

The missing xfer case speedo sensor should not affect shifting as the AW4 has its own output speed sensor.
