I had to pull my front DS because of a terrible squeak and vibration at highway speed, I then realized that the center bearing cup thing was the culprit and not the ujoints, what the hell is this called and how much work/cost does it involve, and does the whole thing need to be balanced after repair?

sounds like to me you are talking about the cv joint in your front drive shaft. a friend of mine and I replaced his not that long ago. i cant remember how much the parts cost but they werent to expencive. hope that helps

driveshaft centering yoke cost about $60. The cardin joint has to be taken apart. You need to bring it to driveshaft shop.
Centering yoke $60
2 u-joints $30
1 Hour labor $50 if your lucky
---------------------------
$140

You should be able to source a good used front driveline at a wrecking yard for quite a bit less than $140. Much less effort as well.
