01 Electrical Problems

Help me pinpoint this problem please!

Symptons:

• Voltage gauage read 19 volts for 5 mintues on a 1 hour drive (twice)
• Radio doesn't turn on with the car (accessory power problem?)
• Car wouldn't start with key, no power, no response. 30 seconds later it fired just fine. Has only happened a couple times.
• Had charging system checked at Schucks, tested just fine
• Alternator is new ~1000 miles ago

So what's the best guess here? Am I looking at multiple issues? I need this vehicle to be solid as a rock. What's the cheapest way to fix this?

I just went through this with my '01. It would not start then be fine for a while then same thing again.

Although i never drove with the voltage up for more than a few seconds to pull over. Even then I could smell the electrical burning.

When it came down to it for me it was my battery terminals and wires. I checked the grounds and they were fine then replaced the wires and everything is fine. So Far....
