do all four banger Cherokees have 4:10 gears???

im curious if all four banger Cherokee's have 4:10 gears. ive read somewhere on here that they do and sometimes they don't. does anybody know if all of them came with 4:10's? im looking at a set of axles right now and they came from a four banger Jeep. the guy doesn't know the gearing and im wondering because i want to put them under my 93 that i plan on lifting 3 inches in the near future. :roll:

if it was equipped with a 5 speed, it had default 4.10 gears. there are some exceptions.

all 4 speeds are 3.55, some 3.73, and if custom ordered, 4.10

auto should be a 4.10

what about a 2000 4.0l auto with a Crysler rear diff???

They are 3.55s here, too, just like they are on JF.

I know some older Cherokees, and Comanches had 4.56 gears with the 2.5 and AW4.

yes they did, but the aw4 was a very, VERY limited option behind the 2.5.

the typical 2.5 auto was some other piece of junk, not an aw4.

thanks, that clears it up for me. i guess ill have to find out what the Jeep had for a tranny. :cheers:

Or, you could just spin the pinion yoke and see how many times the axel shafts spin...
