Gauges Sticking

Why is it that with any other vehicle, when the key is turned off, all of the gauges "drop dead" to the left of each dial, while on my XJ (1988) the only gauges that fall down to zero are the tach and volts. Everything else, (water, oil and fuel) sticks to the last position when the engine was running?


Just curious...

Yeh, I wonder if they are designed that way so that when you hit your key to start, they then drop down to show that they are getting power, the way idiot lights all come on when you first start a vehicle. Sound good?

Could be, it just always puzzled and kinda bugged me.
