Ball joints, and split rings

So I'm going to be doing the front ball joints on my 88 MJ, and am curious about those split rings. I know that they need to be in there to a certain depth (~5.5mm), and they sorta pre-load the joint. I know I will probobly mess it up, and I dont have the right tool to remove them. Can I get away with re-using the same ones that are in there, or do I NEED to replace them? I bought the spicer joints...so they are good quality.

I just need to know, because if I DO need to put the new ones in, I need to get a tool to measure with, and the tool to remove the ring with.

The rings that come with the XJ ball joints are extra parts for some other vehicle.
