Junk in the Trunk

Kyle Horvath

NAXJA Forum User
I just wanted to do a quick post to show y'all what I carry around when I go hit up a trail, camp, or the stuff I just carry around with my rig.

I would have posted this in the adventure forum, but I'm just a user.

I built a slide-out tool box to put in the back of my XJ. It saves a ton of space and I can utilize more room in my rig. All together, the gear I carry with me will weigh at most 120 pounds. I usually carry about half that. Here's a handfull of pics.

If anyone wants to know the list of tools and gear, let me know. I just thought it would be a usefull thread for anone new to wheeling and adventuring.

This is the carpeted top of the tool box. I put my HiLift and pulaski right behind the rear seat

I put in a divider so I could seperate the Craftsman tools from my other gear.

Under the rear seat I carry grease, WD-40, cleaner, and some drinks for emergencies.

The first Aid Kit. (Kept in a crate)

Gear in the drawer, complete with a coleman stove.

Red for recovery gear, grey for survival and personal gear.

Water... sprite sucks

I actually carry almost a gallon of water in smaller containers (for the people who hate Sprite), and other fluids whin I hit the trails. But hey, theres a few beers tucked by the jack if sprite doesn't suit you!

My rig was messy as hell today from the last few runs and trips, so I decided to take a few pics as I cleaned.

I was actually inspired by your post to take some pics. I finally got around to it today.
I just didn't feel like typing it up!

Well, I'm all loaded for Saturday's event early. I'll get some pics later. Not as organized as you guys and I don't bring nearly as much as you do. Plus I don't have a high lift YET......a 4x4 block of wood and the stock jack work though. Plus plenty others have a high lift to help.

Hey, if I carried that much stuff so neatly packed I would be prepared as well as fix the fact that my jeep sits a lil higher in the back.m mHMMM Get Stuff packed.

Unloaded my XJ is 5.5" rear and rides stiff but not bad, loaded it is at 4" and rides like a dream! All in all about 200#'s of gear.

Note I am running OME HD springs.

I can imagine it would help the ride some... I need to loose the sub box and pack the tools... I DD mine so That much gear might be a lil overkill but ya never know! I might wanna cook a burger at walmart or somthing. LOoks nice.

I found a sub tube that I am cutting down and making shorter and will mount with brackets in the window just beside the air tank. I'm old and all but I still like my Hank Jr. with some bass!

The tube I'm cutting down is a old Sparkomatic with a built in 100 watt amp so its not much but it will help and fit!

Mine is not a DD, I have 3 other XJ's for that but I unload it after each trip to ease the stress on the springs and to go through the gear and re-stock and organize it.

dont let the beers tucked away blow up in the freezing nights!

The coast keeps me warm. . .
It gets below freezing a few times a year in Arcata (North Coast of California).

I've loaded my rig with 400 pounds of gear and coolers and another 350 in the rear seats with buddies and my rig just sets level at that. I prefer the rear to be higher by a bit. Front is at 5.5, rear is 5.5 springs with about 3/4 inch bigger shackles. She's a DD too.

I wish my sub would fit in a sub tube! I've got one JL15W0 and 2 amps, one for mids and highs and the other for the sub. both amps take up the whole back panel on the back seat and the sub box fills up 3/4 of the cargo area. I need to scale it down some.

PS Hank with bass is great...

Ya I have a ton of stuff in my trunk to, I made a box and keep stuff in the box, spare and other bag of tools that are nice to have in easy reach on top, jumpers and other stuff under the seat, and a few other things thrown about.

Also, that tow hook would do better actually mounted on the jeep.
