4.0L bolt pattern changes

I have 99 XJ with a blown motor and someone has a 98 4.0L engine for sale. I believe it will match up as the engine did change some in 2000, but I believe the engines where the same from 97-99.

Can someone let me know if this swap will work or post up a link from a previous thread that can help me out?

Should match up, intakes will be different, so I'd reuse your old (better) intake.

What happened to the '99 engine? 0331 cracked head or what?

Shouldn't be a 0331 head unless it was a really really really late '99.

A rod blew through the side of the block, I think it was in cyl #5. The head is probably shot now. I'll post pic's up soon. At 350,000km, something was bound to happen....
