1997 4x4 HIGH not engaging

The 4x4 selector moves well without binding. However, the transfer case will not lock in to 4x4 HIGH. I can get it to go in to LOW. After taking it out of LOW , it will still fail to go in to HIGH.

The gears just grind in HIGH. Any suggestions? Do you guys need more info?

I have the same problem with my transfer case in 4 high, but its extremely intermittent. I've heard the plastic clips holding the linkage together wear out causing the shift rail to not properly move. You can get all new shifter linkage from Novak Adapters too.
