detroit locker question?

i bought a used rear detroit locker full case for my XJ 44 recently and the locker had been sitting for a few months before i purchased it and it has some slight surface rust on it. my question is what is the best way to clean that off of the locker before installing it?

Use some scotch brite, the heavier stuff, the red pad. Spray on a little brake clean, it helps a bit. Make sure to blow/clean off any dust and such. Where is the surface rust at?

get some green scotchbright pads and scrub the rust off... spray it with WD40 and call it good...

thats what i was thinkin. its not bad just on the outside of the case.

I would only clean the gear mounting surface,Throw it in and let the gear oil take off the rest.
