Ok a friend of mine has a 242 that is grinding. I have one laying around although I don't know what year. Are they compatable as far as spline size and all?
There is a differance in the splines.
I do not know wat year they changed, but they did.
I'm sure i saw a post thet mentioned what year they changed the splines.
23 spline change in '91 for the automatics I believe. Not sure about the manuals, shoot, not even sure you could get a 242 with a manual.
Don't forget, not all 242's are the same. For example, a Grand 242 has a different input depth than a XJ 242. The back half and the guts (minus the input shaft) should be the same for all of them.
If you're on the hunt for one, make sure you get what you're looking for. Otherwise you might end up way deep in trying to make 2 of them into 1 that works so you can drive 9 hours home from Tellico.
