chrysler 8.25 pattern check

Um why did you pull a pattern if its that loose, you planning on running it?

Pinion looks a tad bit shallow to me, but it's not off by much.

I am using the old bearings as test bearings. Do you think a fresh set of bearings should add just enough to fix that?

Generally not, unless the bearing is really worn.

It's definitely tedious to keep changing shims, but if it helps, I feel your pain! I JUST got done setting up a 8.8 and a D30. I got the 8.8 in 2 tries, but the 30 took several.

That looks pretty good, did you re-check the blacklash? (EDIT: didn't see your edit)

I think it might be a little deep now, but it's hard to tell over the internet.
The yellow paint likes being cut with gear oil. Try that and apply more preload, see if the pattern shows up better. Also look a few teeth away from where the paint was applied, sometimes you'll get a better read that way.
