Does my XJ have keyless and where can I get a remote?

Just bought a '97 Country 4 door 4x4 last weekend. It has PL, PW, PM, CD, etc - seems to be loaded. The guy only had two keys that were locksmith made - not even the originals. On the roof by the rearview mirror there is a plastic dome sticking down and there is a chip in it. I believe this was for keyless, but don't want to buy remotes to find out the vehicle doesn't have it.

Also, I was searching Ebay and can't find any remotes for a '97 cherokee. I see lots of 96-98 Grand and 99-03 Grand. My brother's '00 XJ remote is identical looking to 99-03 WJ, so would I be safe buying one for a 96-98 WJ and it working on mine???

Not sure if one from a WJ would work or not, because there were two different kinds of remotes for the 97+'s. My buddy's 97 has the square one, and my 99 has the round one that you can see in the picture I posted here.

Yeah, my brother's '00 has the rounded remote. I believe those are for '99+ b/c the WJ remotes are the same thing for '99+. As seen here:

If you friend's '97 is square, then maybe the XJ & WJ do share remotes. '96-98 WJ looks like this:

you can go to a dealer and have them run your VIN and they will tell you if your jeep came with one
