Wiring??????

Ok my 96 Xj i was cleaning it out. I just purchased the vehicle and noticed a burn hole in the carpet under the rear seat. The wires that were there were a melted mess what are they for? Everything is still working to my knowledge although i don't know if the rear defroster is or not.

not sure what the 96 has there, but on my 97 on the drivers side I had a factory amp for the sound system. could be they removed that, forgot to cap the live wires and caused your mess.
if I remember correctly there were about 16 different wires, bunch leading into, bunch leading out of the amp.
