I foind an 86 MJ with a 4.0, I dont know if its 4wd or not, i cant tell from his pics but he wants $500 cash and it needs the leaf springs to be put back in place.
it has an original mileage of 80k.
Good condition 1986 Jeep comanche, needs tune up and installation of leaf springs. I have all the parts for it. clean interior. good little work truck with 80,000 original miles on it!
(beat me, i know this is an XJ forum but this looks to good to pass up!)

double check the 4.0. in 86, MJs didnt come with the 4.0...only the 2.8 V6 or a 2.5 I4. If it is a 4.0....then it has been swapped in by somone :)

I'm DD'ing a $500 '89. After I got the bugs worked out, it's been a terrific truck, and real handy too. I'd say just about anything is worth $500. If it has a 4.0 it was put in, make sure of the swap job. Even a 2.8 w/80k sounds ok. I had a 2.8 in a S-10 w/170k. (Same motor? not sure)

It ain't 2wd, its freakin long-bed people!!!!!
The V6 sucks... check and see what engine it has in it. See if your girlfreind fits longways on the bench seat too... lol.

Have fun chopping off that frame and bed!! I did it to mine, it ain't bad. You can shorten the frame 20" and it'll be great.
That wheelbase is huge 120" haha, I love it. I can climb anything.

So all longbed MJs are 4x4??? From the pic it looks like it's lacking a 4x4 lever...

Looks like a 2WD too me.

^^^ "Looks" like a 2wd... meaning physically, because of how LOW & LONG the truck looks to him. I was saying, it "Looks" low because it is a Long bed.
Nobody said ANYTHING about ALL MJs being 4x4 except you.

Dude, you need to chill the F out! To me, your above statement implies that all long bed MJs are 4x4. Did you see the question mark after my response?? I was wondering if you knew something that I didn't. AFAIK, any MJ can be either 2 or 4wd.

I was basing my assumption that it's a 2wd vehicle on the fact that I can not see a Tcase shifter on the tranny hump. I would say it's safe to assume that the other guy was thinking the same thing.

That truck is a 1986. All 86's were longbed. That one has a TF904 3spd auto. 2.8 or 2.5L FI. It IS 2wd as the obvious lack of a transfer case shifter on the floor. That LWB roll bar is worth some good $ alone seeing as they are rare as a rust-free New York State Jeep.

Yea it is worth it about 150.00 bucks will get the springs taken care of. And yes if you KsMJ, had an S-10 with the 2.8L it is the same engine (Chevy Code LR2) Same with the mid '80's Camero. Let the engine run and warm up really good cause they have a thing where the oil pressure will drop to about 5lb of pressure once it gets hott.

GM never really got the oiling of the 60° motors correct. The Roll bar is what makes that truck worth $150. If the body is good its a great candidate for an AW-4/231 or 242 swap. Everything swaps. Driveshafts will need modification but you can drop a 4.0L in there with a stick Or Auto (keep your column shift, AFAIK the cables for the 904 and AW-4 are the same)

I never said all MJ's are 4x4's. I had a buddy that had a two wheel drive MJ. I only commented that this vehicle looked like it was a two wheel drive because there is no shifter for the transfer case.

Two wheel drive, I mean one wheel drive vehicle. Two wheel would be a 4x4 with both axles open differentials.
