I have searched the old threads however i mostly find information on older xj's so i am curious on the dimensions of the cat inlet outlet on a 98. I have found info on flanges etc. however mine does not have a flange. I am planning on purchasing a 2.5 high flow with the 02 bung already installed.

Do you guys see any reasons not to? I think it should easily adapt......

My 95 used 2 1/4" (2.25"). Inlet and outlet. I just replaced my cat/muffler. Cat slid right over the pipe coming from the header. Had an exhaust shop get me a pipe slightly smaller than 2 1/4" so I could link up my cat and the muffler with the same diameter inlet and outlet.

Or you could weld if you know how to.
