Yes I seached but couldn't find it. Anyone know what the backspacing is for a stock wheel?

2001 XJ plane old steel wheel silver. I'm looking at 15x8's with 4.5 BS will that help keep my 31's off the control arms?

Yes.

I run the same wheel with 12.50 wide tires and it works fine.

You'll pick up another 1.5" in track width using those versus stock.
