Head bolt removal?

First and foremost, I searched and could not find what I needed.

Could someone let me know what kind of wrench/socket is needed to remove the head bolts from a 2000 XJ 4.0. It looks similar to a Torx but has too many sides. Lookes almost round.

Yep, it's a 12-pt deep-well. The deeper the better. Be sure to get a good quality socket too as it takes a pretty good crank to break them loose.

I 2nd that it is a 12 pt deep socket that is needed... is your head cracked? If it is are you getting a prior to 99 head? http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=919384

check this out and also in thread i listed in the 2nd post... any questions let me know, because my head was cracked and i switched it out for a older one that isnt prone to cracking.

It is my father's Jeep and we don't know if the head is cracked yet. My mother has been driving it with it constantly overheating for the last three years, she never metioned it, and it has finally had enough. It is either the head gasket alone or a cracked head.

Once we figure which it is, he is planning on just getting it running enough to trade in on another vehicle. So he will probably get the cheapest head he can find, whether it is an older one or not.

how much are you looking to get for it... guys on here will give you more then the dealership for a 2000 xj...
