Lurches when going from first to second gear

Hello all. First time post here.

I picked up a 94 Cherokee a few days ago (4.0L, 5 spd, 4 dr) and today twice or thrice when going from first to second gear, it started lurching/chugging. It goes away if I depress the clutch then let it back up easy.

Does anyone have any idea what the cause/solution is? I searched (keyword lurch) and couldn't find anything.
