Hand Throttle

Wondering if anyone has made a custom hand throttle for their XJ. When on steep inclines it would be nice not to have to use my right foot for the brake and gas pedal. I was looking at custom ones for Tj's and wasn't sure if it would be the same for a cherokee. There was something about how having cruise control affects it.

My jeep is a 1995 with an Ax 15 with cruise control if that matters

I used one of those bycycle shift levers on my rig. It is for a tandom bike so it needs to be shortened some but it works well. It can be tensioned enough to hold the throttle but is still movable by hand.

It isn't super fancy but I can set the RPM for the OBW or OBA. It also helps when you need to work the clutch, brakes and gas at the same time.

I have cruse as well and it wasn't a problem.

Rubicon Express makes a hand throttle that is, essentially, a down tube shifter off an older model road bike.

i've got the RE hand throttle on my xj. works great...i paid like $20.00 shipped for it. as for the cruise the only issue i have is my throttle does get stuck half open sometimes on long hwy drives only when i use the cruise...kindof wierd, but i haven't had a chance to mess with it yet.

thanks for the replys. I was looking for more of a DIY style dont want to spend the money on something that is simple. the only problem i saw when looking at the linkage was there was no place to attach another cable with the cruise control cable attached.. Does anyone have pitures of theirs mounted iwth cruise control?

Ooh! Ooh! I know this one! I saw pictures of another guy (Sorry, desktop shit the bed so i can't link the bookmark) who did the same thing. He had cruise control, all he did was crimp a big ring terminal to the end of the cable, then attatched it right next to the cruise control cable.

What I mean is, the Cruise clips onto a little stud like thing on the throttle body, he slid the ring terminal over that, THEN put on the cruise cable. It stilled clipped on just fine and IIRC he had no issues with it.

Then the happy prince killed the bad dragon, and they all lived happily ever after.

The end.

It's the damn weather here. 4-5 month winters with no sun at all if you work from 9 to 5 and then stupid hot summers when you can easily golf at midnight. (If you golf. I don't. Ever.)

My circadian rythym is all wonky.:looney:
