best year for d30

my front diff has finally exploded! I need to find a replacement. so my question is what is the best year for a dana 30? I know to stay away from late model low pinions, and to stay away from the disconnect style, but is this all?

Well, you can find the H/P, non disco D-30 all the way back to 1987, and up until at least 1998, as my "old" 1998 had this. One of the clues of the non-disco in the older models is the NP242 T-case.

HP D30 thru 1999,other things to consider are 260 vs.297 axle shafts and the different brakes used!

i would say 95-ish to 98. hp, non-disco, and the larger u-joint size.

why not 99 HP? 2000 is when they started the LP...
