Rear axle knocking

Hi !

I have Jeep Cherokee 1989 with DANA 35 rear axle with Trac-lok Differential.

I noticed that when I drive really slow and turn to left or to the right little bit, I am hearing something like knock from the rear axle and the car does not go smoothly - very rough.
I looked at the wheel when it is happening and it looks like one wheel is kept tight for a moment and later wheel goes free and once again is kept.

So , what could be reason of that - maybe parts of Track-lok are worn out. What is your idea?

Thanks
Pawel

very likely! as you change direction, you're loading and unloading the inner ond outter axle unequally- any problem with trac-lok would show itself then.

Hi !

Recently I pull out the diff cover and I inspected spider gear.

Please look at the picture:

In place where I put "A" arrow I noticed that when I turning left/right rear driveshaft there I see the small gap - it is not tight.
Arrow "B" I put because during driveshaft turning it slightly moved.

At this picture you see teeth.

The arrow indicates where the surface is worn out .

You think that the problem from first post comes because my spider gear is worn out and I should exchange that.

What about trac-lok discs - you think they are need to be changed also or they can be allright.

I have never done something with DANA 35 - Is it big problem to put new spider gear by myself?

Thank you for advise
Pawel
