KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. -- An Ellensburg man died after his Jeep smashed into a large tree on Saturday, deputies said.
Russell Lockhart and his wife were riding in the Jeep alongside other Jeeps on Boulder Creek Road between Nanum and Coleman canyon around 7:20 p.m. when he rode up onto a cut bank on a slight corner. The move caused his Jeep to careen sideways and ram into a tree, according to deputies.
Lockhart was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene. His wife suffered internal injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. Her condition is not known.
