factory skids and hitch by years...

Are class III hitches for 84-96 different than 97-2001?

How aoubt the stock transfer case skid? Did they ever offer this with the 242, and would it be different for the 231?

How about the stock gas tank skid? Newer tanks are plastic, older are metal right?

I have a '99, a guy has some but he's thinking they won'd fit because his are from an older one.

I'm hoping someone can tell me he's wrong, or what the exact issues would be.

The t-case and hitch will fit. I went to the pick 'n pull and grabed a draw-tite off a 90's XJ. It bolted right up to my '99. The gas tank skid is different, and won't fit.

I used a hitch from a 97 on a 96. Now it is on a 92. A 97+ gas tank skid can be modified to fit a pre97, done it twice. No idea on the tc skid, never had a stock one. JIM.
