Broken in - dont want to lose the XJ

My truck was broken in to at work yesterday. between 11am and 5pm, they took my Ipod, GPS, and stereo along with some other random stuff. popped the lock out of the passenger side door (F'd up the door, thanks!) and made short work of taking everything.

I have made the decision to stick with a stock radio and keep my junk unlocked, however I want to wire up a switch that cuts the fuel or starter. I have a switch location in mind, but I was wondering if someone could tell me which wires I would need to splice into to make this a reality. Its an 01 XJ sport with all power and keyless entry.

Thanks in advance!

Mike

You can make a kill switch from you crank posistion sensor, which is inline to your fuel pump. Short and right under your tranny tunnel...The only people that would know about it are xj people so dont sweat it.

Run a splice from the CPS to your cockpit and fashion a kill switch and you'll be gravy.

I would consult a local car alarm installation shop, offer them some cash for the information

Wow you are pretty witty!

As for a fuel cut off switch there is a write up http://www.projectxj.com/mods/kill.switch.htm
on this subject. Now I got all the way to installing my switch (and his wires were colored diffrent than mine. mine was orange) and my switch fell apart cause i was trying to modify it (me being to forcefull with the switch). So i opted not to do it even after cutting a hole and finding the wire. I will be going out soon and getting a new switch and tearing into it again. Just make sure you get a HD switch that will handle the current from the fuel pump. Im actually thinking to just cutting into the ground wire and going that was as to not hinder the life of my wires or my fuel pump.

BEN H : Problem is, im new to this truck, and dont know which wires to look for. care to elaborate? im not a dolt, and im willing to work for this! I just want to save the headache of hunting through looms if someones already done it

EDITED, wanted to reply to Ben. I did see that writeup Pornstar, but I like the CPS idea too.

Instead of a fuel pump shut off, i installed a clutch kill switch. I don't know the exact wiring, since my brother told me how to do it. if it's an automatic then this wouldn't work, but it's another thought...

same thing

your CPS is located in the driver side tranny tunnel on the bell houseing... right above the tranny. There are 2 wires located on the CPS sensor. One is black and the othe is grey or white (cant remember). Wire both of those wires to a switch, and you have a kill switch in 10 minutes. Hide the switch and be good.:anon:

Feeling to good right now to get into details, will post up tommorrow. sorry about your jeep.

do a search and you'll know what i'm talking about. this stuff has been covered lots.

search "kill switch"

With the automatic, you could wire up a neutral switch kill. Wire from the connector at the NSS.

I wouldn't mess the the NSS, or the CPS. Both will throw a code and light the MIL. The best circuit to add a run interrupt to is the ADS relay in the PDC. The best place to interrupt the circuit is after fuse 11 in the fuse block on the passenger side foot well. The wire you want to cut is the DB/WT (dark blue/white tracer) wire. Bay adding a switch in series with the coil of the ADS relay it will act in effect like the key wasn't even on. However if you have the vehicle running and where to hit the switch it would shut off the motor just like you turned off the key.

Now if you want to do a starter interrupt then just add a switch in series with the start wire in the column harness.

Start is YL

Run is BK/OR

ST/Run is DB

Here is a link to some nifty starter kills using simple relays.
http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page2.asp

A thief that knows what they are doing can override a simple starter kill at the column harness in seconds. If you want better security your going to want to do it at a place other then there. If you get yourself a FSM, and use the wiring schematics there are other places that would make it very hard for a thief to figure how to get it started.

I dont know about the NSS throwing a code, but the CPS wont.

Good info, I want to also do a kill switch

Quick & simple, take the coil wire with you. Takes another minute or 2 but even more secure, take the rotor. Won't start w/o either one & it's free

His jeep does not have a coil or rotor. ;)

Missed that it was a 01:eek: Not sure how those ignition systems work. Sure you could just pull a fuse though :dunno:

Good luck.

Can you post a pic of the lock/door damage? I've been compiling an album of this entry method. I ended up removing my locks to prevent such an entry...

??? Removed the locks? How do you keep whatever is in your jeep away from casual thieving? I am really curious because a while back, someone tried to pop out the cylinder on mine too. I came out and scared him away i guess ( didn't see him, just heard him) He left me a chipped and bent flathead screwdriver in my driveway as he ran.

So serioulsy, how do you lock up? Or do you just not leave anything in your Jeep?

Yes it will on a 00+

P0320-
No crank referance at PCM-
No reference signal (crankshaft position sensor) detected
during engine cranking.

Also
P0320-
No RPM Signal to PCM (Crankshaft
Position Sensor Signal to JTEC)
A CKP signal has not been detected at the PCM.

There two other codes for high and low voltage conditions on the CKP too.

The NNS-

P1899 (M) P/N Switch Stuck in Park or in Gear Incorrect input state detected for the Park/Neutral switch
(3 or 4-speed auto. trans. only).

Also after reading the FSM a little more. Interupting the the coil side of the ADS relay without interupting the key on referance signal to the PCM will light the MIL too. If you want to run a k run kill switch you will have to interupt the run wire from the iginition switch. FYI interupting the fuel pump control circuit will also light the MIL. You can pull the fuel pump relay though without lighting it. I do it when ever I need to crank the moter over without it starting. Just did it yesterday infact.
