92 5- speed Transfer case to a 95 auto.????

I just bought a 95 XJ country. It will go into 4H not 4low. you really have to slam it back to get to 4 low and when I go from neutral to drive it just grinds. the previous owner said "it's done it before and that the shifter isn't able to go far enough back." a mechanic said that the low was out and the high was next to go. Now, I also own a 92 XJ 5-speed AX-15 with the 231 also in it. will they swap directly, or will the outputs be too short or long?? Thank you fellow Jeepers -----Josh

They should - I believe the inputs are the same after 1990. I know the earlier inputs had a 21-spline shaft (later ones are 23-spline,) but I think there may have been variations on "stickout."

I have a Quadratec magazine for wranglers, and it lists one for the AX15 AND ONE FOR THE AX5.

Are you stopping and putting the tranny in neutral before trying to shift the transfer case between hi and low? You will grind if you're not. YOu can only shift between 2hi and 4hi on the fly.
