CD Players for 2000 XJ

I just bought a 2000 XJ for the wife. And was wondering what aftermarket CD Players are out there that will fill the factory radio space. Not wanting to use a reg. size headunit with one of those plastic pieces to fill the gap. Just curious if their are any aftermarket headunits available that are the correct size. If not I will look into buying a factory cd player. All this one has is the tape deck.

Thanks

Pioneer and JVC are the only 2 I believe.

I would usually agree, I liked a full size replacement, but they are expensive for what you get, and the AI kit for the Cherokee is really nice, it fits a radio, inset in... Looks really nice for a aftermarket, I have pics but cannot upload them here cause I am a newbie.

Thanks everyone. Sharker, if you want email pic to me at [email protected] I was wondering how the Kit looked in their to fit a reg size head unit. I know some of the old ones looked ghetto had the head unit sticking way out in some other vehichles.\

Thanks

Got a cell phone ? a newer one with blue tooth ? Go to cardomain.com, go with a standard sized unit, if you buy the head unit the install kit including wiring and the face plate adapter comes with, actually looks pretty good. I have the Jensen MP8610BT in the XJ.

WOW, the JVC even handles incoming text messaging, neat, I'm reading the jvc site now...
Here is the Cnet review...

I like the pioneer as it comes with an external mic that you can mount over the sunvisor which is the main shortcoming with the jensen I have. As soon as I get the pioneer the jensen gets moved to one of the TJ's....

The bluetooth is not just for cell phones, it can also be used for other bluetooth devices like ipods, stereo headphones, etc.. The jvc one is nice in that it will pair with 5 devices, I'm hoping it also has the external mic but have not found any detailed info on it yet, I prefer the price vs the pioneer.
Update: It has an external mike, ordering it now....

I wonder if any of these could link up with my Microsoft Zune..?

anyone have any experince with it?

I also have a 2000 and think its time to leap into a real CD deck and new speakers.

Damn, not in stock yet...it's a pre-order... oh well.

i have installed about 10 kits in my friends with the 1.5 to 1 din kit... i think schosche (sp?) makes them... they are really easy and come with all the wiring to make the new cd head unit plug and play... honestly the gap around the headunit is minimal and looks really clean... a new headunit and speakers even some 50 dollar pair pioneers will make a big difference in sound quality... to top it off if desired run an extrernal amp like 200x4 for your mid range speakers instead of off the headunit amp and you will be really amazed... the acoustics in the cherokee are excelent and a new headunit and speakers will complement your ride... anyways it is very easy and should take a new person about 2-3 hours at the most... if you have the time run some new 16 ga speaker wire (the fronts are easyier than the rear!) and that will replace the small stock wiring which helps too... anyways good luck and you will be very hapy when it is all said and done i think it looks really sharp
