Hub Seals

Only In A Jeep XJ

NAXJA Forum User
Was working on my new axles today and have run into a problem. I have a HP D30 out of a 86 XJ and I am replacing the C.V. Axle shafts with ones out of a 98 TJ. Now heres my problem. The grease seals in the hub are different. and the sleeve on the 86 is bigger than the 98 and on in different directions.

Now I've removed the seal rings cause I can not use them. But I don't want to leave the bearings exposed. So does any one know what seals need to be used?

This is the old C.V. Shaft

And this is the new shaft.

I placed the rings on there to give an idea of how they went.

Axle shaft, please call them axle shafts! :p

They are different diameters? Measure the I.D and the O.D of the seal for the new shaft, and go to your local parts store.

I've seen guys just use a sleeve that fits over the axle shaft and are greaseable, let me try to dig up a part number for them.
