what year front axle shaft???

:huh: I have searched an came up with not the answer i need.I need to replace my front d30 shafts an i want to know the years of the larger u joint.I am getting ones from 97- 05 wrangler and it also fits 97-01 xj.non abs axles is this what i wanted for the bigger joints?got a great deal on them

thank you i have seen that thread before but when i go look online for replacement ujoints it lists BOTH for all years wrangler-xj so again as stated in thread "somewhere in the mid 90,s the u joints changed" i did search and found that thread on dana 30 but still no real answer ............................specifically did 97-05 wrangler 97-01 xj NON ABS axles were they 260 or 297?????

Front Axles
Dana 30 high pinion - reverse cut - 27 spline, 1.16" diameter shafts, 7.13" ring gear - used 84-99 (some axles through 91 are vacuum disconnect, 92+ are non-disconnect), 89-95 with ABS have 5-297x u-joints, all 1995-2001 have 5-297x u-joints, all others have 5-260x u-joints)

Dana 30 low pinion - standard cut - 27 spline, 1.16" diameter shafts, 7.13" ring gear, 5-297x u-joints - used 00-01

High and low pinion axle shafts interchange.

So will shafts from an 04 TJ also be the 297 joints??

All TJs used the 297 joints, as did all 95 1/2+ XJs

For that matter, from http://yuccaman.com/jeep/history.html#axles :
Dana 30 axles with the NP231, 1987 through 1991 are vacuum disconnect
NP242 Selec-Trac will not have the disconnect
All 1992+ are non-disconnect
All 84-88 D30s have 5-260x u-joints (1 1/16" diameter caps)
1989-95 non-ABS have 5-260x u-joints
1989-95 with ABS have 5-297x u-joints (1 3/16" diameter caps)
All 1995 1/2+ have 5-297x u-joints
5-297x u-joints can be replaced with the stronger 5-760x u-joint
