Dana 30 shafts

I pulled the shafts outa my 2000 XJ to discover there is a groove of sorts about 1.5" from the splines. It's not deep (like 1/32" or less) and it is about 3/4 to an inch wide. I wanted to put them in the HP that is in the jeep now. Does anybody know if they are ok to run in there or are the shafts bad?

Somebody told me the grooves are from the bearings going bad.

Thanks, Micah.

Nobody?

I think what you need to do is to figure out if the grooves are on the sealing surface. If they are, I suspect they'll leak or eat seals, and those are a nuisance to replace on a D-30 (have to go in from inside).

If the grooves are worn at the seals, then put on speedy sleeves to fix it. They are thin metal bands that go on, and provide a new surface to seal against, usually held in place with a sleeve retainer compound (from Loctite or other).

Here are a few pics just to clarify what I am talking about.
