blown fusible link

i have a quick stupid question. how do i know if a fusible link is blown. i've never delt with them and i don't know what im looking for.

you can probe on each side of the link and check continuity, or a simpler way is to grab on each side of the link and pull, if it is burnt out it will streach like a rubber band if not it will be like pulling on a regular wire and not budge.
