dumb axle questions

Sorry all for a newbie question but I havent found the answer for this, I understand the rear axles pretty well but the question I have is when people talk about d44 axles in front they must be a different than the d44 rears right, I know this is common sense to most of you but I'm still learning. If someone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.
