Winding down noise when I turn off the jeep

Alright, first
1998 xj 4.0L 5 speed. Lifted 5.5"
D30 and C 8.25

Sometimes when I turn off the jeep it sounds like the engine is winding down defiantly somewhere from the tcase forward. its a mechanical sound it takes about 5 seconds to complete.

Maybe a fan??? but it sounds like gears(not smooth enough for bearings).

Problem is I cant MAKE it do it yesterday it did it 2 times in a row, today nothing.

Any ideas on where to look? What could continue spinning when at stop and engine off?

thanks

It could be the fan clutch. After it's warm and you shut it down, open the hood and spin it. It shouldn't spin freely. It's hard to tell if they are bad or not but if your jeep is up there in miles it's worth the $40 to replace it.
