I have a 242 in my '98 and for the second time I've had the plastic pads for the shift forks wear out. The first timeit was the range fork and it left me stranded in NE on a Saterday night. It wore into the metal of the fork so far it wouldn't hold it in the high range position and kept slipping into the netrual position. I replaced the case with a used one and all was well. Here I am 50K miles later and another broken t-case. I'm not sure the pads caused the failure this time but they were wissing and wearing into the mode fork.

So, my question is, any one else have this problem? What's the solution? This time I put ATF+4 in there which is full synthetic but I don't know if that will help.
