1st gear lockout???

During my recent trip to paragon I got put in some crappy situations going downhill and not being able to use 1st gear. I almost clipped a bunch of trees and since I don't have ABS(which I am happy about) I was doing alot of slidingand not much steering. So to my question is ther a way that I can get my tranny to stay in first so I can go down icy hills without crapping my pants and how much is it gonna cost me?? The search is down right now and all help would be great.
 
I have a 98 and bigoffroad only recomends to do it on a 96 and older. I will check out aw4shifting but the site is not coming up for me right now
