Interior accent lighting?

On the pre-97 XJ's i've noticed it gets kind of annoying when your passengers are hitting everything on the door panel besides the window switch at night. So does anyone have any ideas for very dim accent lights just to glow over the switches to make it a bit easier to see? I was thinking maybe LED's but not quite sure how to wire it. Has anyone done anything like this?

What? dash and console lights are dimmable... are you saying that when the passenger say.. opens the door the interior lights come on?
