Can I put 31's on my 1992 xj with a 2in. coil spacer in front and a bastard pack in back? I dont really want it to rub but wouldnt care too much

I had 31's on a 2" BB. Rubbed on fenderwells. Cut to fit.

What would be a good 3" lift that is not too expensive and is easy to install? I know that this has been asked before but I just want to get a solid answer. I would like a lift kit with complete rear leafs. What is a bastard pack?

Rubicon express has a nice kit. Don't cheap out you will regret it if you do, I did and I do, The only thing left of that kit is the coils springs.

A good all around kit is probably a RE one, IMO, but comes as a 3.5" lift.
A bastard pack is adding more leaves to a stock XJ pack. I made a bastard pack by adding a stock XJ main leaf, and a stock XJ second leaf, both cut down to fit properly, to my already in place(stock) leaf pack. You can use any leaves that are 2.5" wide. S10 and Durango leaves are popular for doing a bastard pack.

I have a 91 xj that I got for free and when I leave Germany I will pass it down to the next soldier for free as well. So I don’t want to spend much money on it but working on it is like a hobby to me so I built a bustard pack out of some Ford explorer springs and front spacers out of my wife’s cutting board (http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoFrontSpacer.htm) and lifted it a good 3”. It cost me $18 for all the parts. The ford springs are very stiff and don’t flex. They are good for the occasional mud hole but springs from one of the vehicles catman mentioned would probably work better but they weren’t available to me at the time. Before I lifted it I ran 30” tires on stock rims and their was a little bit of rubbing on the LCA at full lock but wasn’t a problem. Now I have 235-75 15s with no rubbing. So I guess the answer to your original question would yes.
Too lazy to cut that leaf off to under the center of the top leaf eye but it works.
The proper size hole saw would have made the spacers look a lot better but they work too. Also installed longer shocks. (I didn’t include that in my “cost of the lift bragging”)
