repairing passenger upper control arm mount

a few years ago, the mount ripped away from the housing, with the crack at the top of the factory weld. it was rewelded on top of the original weld. this is on the inner portion of that mount.

it has ripped away again...at the top of the repair weld.

has anybody done this repair without trussing the whole housing? mini-truss to the mount? slapped some more steel on it?

thanks.

Pat

edit: we are, of course, talking about a D30 here

On the axle side? You should have boxed it in. A truss would help, too of course.

I would make a more solid, thicker mount since you have to redo it.

yeah, the housing is the axle side. hindsight is 20/20. there will be no new mounts or full trusses on this housing. it is already bent/forked/etc.

i'd just like to see what some others have done in this situation.

anybody?

I had mounts made out of 2" box tube with superflex joints welded to the top instead of the stock bushings.

Remove the control arm, run a bead down the inside of the bracket. With that done grind the broken weld and do over. Use a high tensile rod.
