XJ NP231 or NV242 in ZJ

A buddy of mine has a 97 ZJ, 4.0 auto(unsure of the trans) and the NV249 IIRC. It has Full Time AWD, Neutral& Low.

Anyways he wants to swap in either an NP231 or NV242 from an XJ. I'm about 99% sure it'll work as everything underneath XJ's & ZJ's are the same.

Anyone here try this or know somebody who has? Any adapters needed?
